How To Stop Getting Lost In Hollow Lantern

June 4, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

Hollow Lantern deliberately gives you almost no navigation help, and that's the point. But there's a difference between pleasant exploration and being genuinely stuck, and I spent a while in the second camp before figuring things out.

Use landmarks, not directions. The valley loops back on itself, so pick a distinctive tree or ruin and treat it as your anchor. I mentally named a few of them, which sounds silly but saved me a lot of wandering.

Watch the light. The lantern isn't just atmosphere — it reveals paths and reacts to certain surfaces. When you're stuck, sweep it slowly across walls and floors before assuming there's no way forward.

Most puzzles reference something you saw earlier. If a symbol makes no sense, it's probably a callback to a room you passed twenty minutes ago. Backtracking isn't a failure here, it's part of the design.

Play with sound on. Audio cues genuinely guide you, and I solved at least two sections purely by following a sound I couldn't see the source of.
